FULL ON VAMLET

CASEY, TIJANA, and DAN in “VAMLET”
Thursday/Friday were spent polishing four scripts.
NOW it’s full on editing VAMLET. I’d like to get a rough assembly finished by the end of the week. SO MUCH left to slog through.
Back to it!

LET’S CALL IT DAY THIRTY-ONE

It’s taken me three days to go through two camera’s worth of footage and select the usable clips for ONE scene. One two minute (at the most) scene. I still haven’t made a single edit, just taking the usable parts and putting them onto a timeline. It’s 47minutes long (but this is double because most of the shots are TWO cameras) and now I need to cut those 47 (94) minutes into less than 2 minutes of magic.
It’s a scene with Kate and Kristine in Brooklyn’s Apartment.
Crazy times.
A NIGHT FOR DYING TIGERS Vancouver premiere is tomorrow at 9:15pm, Granville 7 theatre. Get your tickets now at viff.org.
I have no idea what to call this new film.

DAY TWENTY-THREE

TIJANA POPOVIC is TINA
“Pet your power animal.”
It was great to see Tijana again. She is one of the very best!
Things got pretty crazy with all of that healing. Everybody was really great yesterday. It was a pretty light scriptment day, and everybody contributed a little something extra.
I’m mixing Dying Tigers, and my shoulder and back are very grateful for the rest. Shooting an entire film handheld, with a great deal of improvisation seemed like a great idea, but it’s been a bit tougher than I thought. The HVX weighs more than the DVX, and it’s been a few years.
Sill, I can’t wait to get back to work with this cast in a few days!

DAY TWO: editing begins

Editing the hours of footage from DAY ONE.
We didn’t shoot today (which was perfect because it was raining!).
I spent the day editing WAY TOO MUCH FOOTAGE for the amount of screen time it will take up, however, it’s so much better than having NO COVERAGE at all, right?
The Editor part may growl at the footage provided by the Director part of me, but The Editor will appreciate it in the end!
Options.
It will still probably take three months before I have a workable version of the scene from yesterday!

DAY ONE: Make a movie
DAY ONE
So, let’s see if I can keep this up until the end.
I should probably keep this in a word document on my desktop so I can edit it before anybody reads it, however, in case anybody is interested in the ramblings of a filmmaker in the throes of filmmaking. Here it is:
DAY ONEKristine, Casey, and I drive all over the city, stealing shots where we need to, hooking up insane car kits and taking them onto the highways and byways. This is the first scene in the movie “proper,” and the more we shoot in sequence the better the film will be (this is true of ALL films, no matter what we say).

Editing begins the same day shooting begins.
Looking forward to tomorrow!
